I think I am enough older than the author that a lot of it doesn't resonate. I am too old to fight with my mother, and she died 18 years ago anyway. Bur there were some sweet realities in the book - like discovering that FWD emails were passed to THOSE YOU LOVE even if annoying. I'd read another by the author, just to see what she's up to next.

In every Laurie Notaro book, there is at least one passage that makes me laugh until I snort, and run to my long-suffering offspring's room where I interrupt whatever he's doing and insist on reading the passage to him, with gestures. I did not break my string of Notaro-induced progeny annoyance episodes with this book.

I cannot express how much I looooooooooved this book!!!!!!!! I haven't laughed this hard in... ummmmmm... maybe ever? You know that kind of laugh that makes your face hurt, tears stream down your cheeks, you can't catch your breath and you think you're going to have a stroke because of the pressure in your head due to how hard you're laughing? No? Just me? That's how hard I was laughing. It was the first one of Laurie Notaro's books that I've read and I enjoyed it so much that I immediately downloaded all the rest of her books onto my Kindle. From the first chapter, Laurie had me in her clutches. I was trying to read the Ambien section out loud to my husband (hey... who doesn't have an Ambien alter-ego?) and couldn't stop laughing long enough to do so. Tears, people!Laurie is hilarious and one of those women that you can completely relate to if you've ever plucked a chin hair, encased yourself in Spanx, tried on a shirt that is wayyyy to small and couldn't get back out of it, gotten bombed on Ambien and shaved your head (oh wait... that was me. Never mind), gained weight, had a mother, lost a grand parent, grew up with sisters, stayed friends with people you've known forever, gotten married, lost a job... She's Every Woman, only funnier. You rock, Laurie!!!!

I have been a fan of Laurie Notaro since she had a column in a local Phoenix publication. Her observations of ridiculous people and uncomfortable situations are dead-on and truly funny, and she is at her absolute best when she is making fun of herself. It is the stuff we all think, but never admit to anyone else, about how dorky we all are deep down. She does go off on tangents rather frequently, but those asides are often as funny as the primary story itself. The chapter about her mom forwarding alarmist e-mails made me laugh so hard I nearly cried. I have that same Italian mom who wholeheartedly believes every single urban legend and conspiracy theory, and thinks she is saving her kids' lives by passing on these e-mail gems.PS It is a huge relief to know that I am not alone when it comes to being absolutely clueless about hugging etiquette. Being an untrained hugger myself, I can totally relate to the extreme awkwardness and embarrassment Notaro vividly describes in the final chapter.

Hilarious! It's rare when my husband won't let me read in bed because I laugh so hard that the whole bed shakes, but this was one of those times. This is the first of Laurie Notaro's books that I have read, but it won't be the last. At a time when there is little good news, this was a fun, funny read, and one that I will recommend to my friends.

I read The Idiot Girls Action Adventure Club by this author over 10 years ago, and I loved it. I was browsing Amazon when I found this book and was ecstatic to find more humor from this author. This book did not disappoint! I love Laurie Notaro's sense of humor, and this book gave me some much needed laughs.

Laurie Notaro is one of the best humor writers around. I've read all of her books and she just keeps getting better and better. She's sarcastic and a self - professed potty mouth, so if you're looking for another Erma Bombeck, she'll be a little too graphic for you. But if you're a grownup with a twisted sense of humor like me, LMAO all through the book. And for one of the 1 - star reviewer (Alice Preuss) please at least spell your words correctly. It's INANE, not ENANE. And this book is neither.

Laurie sounds like one of the coolest chicks to hang out with. She has a dry wit and a skewed perspective on things. Laurie most assuredly has lots of fans based on several books. I can see why she has a following. I bought the book on Kindle based on reviews. This was a book I kept putting down. I found it moderately funny and pushed myself to finish it. A chapter devoted to tree stealing just wasn't that funny nor the opening chapter about trying on a blouse that was too small. I bought it for humor but it didn't fully deliver.
