Gives a nice, extra background info about the Diablo-verse, esp the events leading up to and in and around Diablo 3. A nice, quick overview of important world events and history, without being too long or dry. Only complaint is the binding sucks. The paper is glued in a bundle to the cover, which is... a very heavily plastic coasted paper I am guessing... ??? IDK. Anyways, basically, it means the glue comes undone easily and by the time I was halfway through, the book part had come undone from the cover. The paper book part is still together fine, the cover and that part are just no longer together.Now, a pointer, as I also got the Book of Tyrael at the exact same time (has same binding issue, btw). IF you can't decide on which to purchase, I recommend this one the most. They both have almost the exact same info, with this one giving more insight into the events of the Diablo 3 game itself, as well as the events that led up to it and some the things that happen in the last two games. If you are a completionist, go for both, as there are a few tidbits in each that the other doesn't have but if I were to chose the better of the two, it is this one. It even has "notes" in it from Leah as she was reading through it after Cain's death. So again, perfect insight into the character's minds.
I just got my copy this morning, I have to say this is one of the nicest game companion books I have purchased over the years. Being a Diablo fan since the original game I knew I had to pick this up and it doesn't disappoint, Blizzard has a knack for making great collector items.The cover of the book itself is a textured relief design, it's in a matte type finish and looks great. The red band you see around the book comes off and their is actually no text on the outside cover itself. The inside of the book is where it really shines however! The pages of the book have been rough cut on the edges giving them the appearance of old weathered pages, they also used a weathered yellow appearance on the pages themselves completing the ancient tome look.The books contents are presented by the great man himself Deckard Cain, without spoiling to much of the content I will say it runs the gamut of all things Diablo. The villains, the heroes, lands and lore of Diablo's world and even hell itself is covered. Including Deckard's personal notes to his niece. And of course some of the fantastic artwork of the Diablo world is presented as old sketches.In the back of the book was also a nice little surprise. Inside the hardcover was a envelope attached to the book sealed with a wax seal style of sticker. Inside this envelope was a small map of the Diablo world, with the same rough cut edges that make it look very cool, was a nice little extra.Overall this book is a terrific buy and a great gift for any fan of the series, terrific job Blizzard!
I received this book just today - and firstly, I was very impressed by the sheer speed and efficiency of its shipping; while I had pre-ordered the book, I did not expect it until at least Christmas, and just a few days ago, my hopes fell once more when it seemed that it would not be released until January. Receiving it in the package I got today was truly a pleasant surprise.The book itself is both excellently and uniquely designed, and extensively covers all areas of Diablo lore. In fact, though I have not yet even played Diablo in my life, after reading the novels and this, I have grown more and more fascinated by just the lore alone, and I am seriously contemplating trying out Diablo 3 when it comes out.The Worldstone, the Pandemonium Fortress, the five members of the Angiris Council, the Seven Prime and Lesser Evils, descriptions of various features in the High Heavens, a summary of the Sin War novels, scattered hints and spoilers, all complete with rich, detailed images and a sealed letter from Cain fixed to the back of the book - all this and much more are included in the Book of Cain. All in all, I strongly recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in the Diablo Universe - it truly is a comprehensive and complete guide to the world, and I, for one, am very satisfied with my order.
It's only appropriate that this book should be penned by Deckard Cain himself. After all, he asked us time after time to stay awhile and listen in Diablo II. Now, in this exquisitely produced tome, we get to do just that, as Cain treats us to a history of Sanctuary, experiences that he has had and information that he has gleaned through his studies. Many of the characters he describes we have seen ourselves. He perfectly sets the stage for the arrival of Diablo III. Cain also lovingly addresses this book to his niece Leah, who we have already seen in the Diablo III cinematics and throughout the D3 beta.This is a book that every Diablo fan will love. Not only is it fun to read, but it's beautifully constructed. It has a hard embossed cover and faded, off-color, ragged-edge pages, giving the book an ancient tome-like look. There is a map of Sanctuary enclosed in the back of the book, protected with a faux wax seal (and resealable for the reader whose curiosity gets the best of him). A dust-cover strip with the book's title and descriptive information is removable and when it is, the book almost looks like the Necronomicon.All in all, this is a fine addition to any Diablo fan's library and collection and an excellent preview to Diablo III.
