It does say "Beginning XML" so I'm not sure what I expected. Although the "Software Required" section mentions Visual Studio 2017, .NET Framework 4.7, and C# 7, nothing in the book is particularly targeted to anything that new. The core XmlReader and XmlWriter primarily cover the .NET 1.1 features and only given cursory coverage through XmlTextReader and XmlTextWriter. Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 introduced the Create method as the preferred mechanism for obtaining XmlReader/Writer instances. XmlReaderSettings are mentioned only in the context of validation. None of the ReadContentAs and ReadElementContentAs are mentioned.It is not without its salient points. The examples given on Moving Between Elements helps clarify the less than clear documentation from Microsoft. The walkthroughs on web services are more step-by-step tutorials than narrative explanations but still helpful to the absolute newbie.Overall, it is a very broad, very shallow coverage of the topics that feels like a low effort update intended to check the NEW! IMPROVED! checkboxes.
