NICHIREN provides a clear, dramatic, and easily accessible history of this "radical" Buddhist priest as he advocated for humanism in 13th century Japan. The artwork is wonderful! The story's tension between the rich and the politically powerful, and the average citizen is analogous to our current society. The government's attempts to subvert Nichiren's efforts, even to the point of plotting his murder, are tempered with the values of loyalty, friendship, and perseverance. The message to embrace one's beliefs throughout hardships and to speak up for justice until victory is achieved, is one many people may find inspiring today. I am looking forward to the sequel from the Sado years on!
The art was good but I didn't like the fact that the writer wasn't always truthful. He attributed a quote of Shakyamuni Buddha ro Nichiren. I didn't read much further.
Great book. The manga will keep child and adult alike entertained. Nichiren had a very interesting life. He is very inspirational. This would make a great gift for a Nichiren Buddhist or anyone interested in Japanese history, Buddhist history or who just likes a good read.

Very good, even for adults. The female ninja adds a little spice.
Period depiction art is good and doesn't take away from the story. A very good read, easy to follow, very little liberty taken with historical facts about Nichiren's life. I liked it.
I myself am a member of Soka Gakkai Buddhism, and I think that this was an excellent coverage of Nichiren Daishonin's life and how he worked to free Japan from corrupt priests and officials.
